Health & Safety Training for
Managers and Supervisors
in Victorian schools

Course Objective
This interactive online course (via Zoom) is designed to provide school leaders - Principals, APs, Business Managers, OHS Management Delegates ('Nominees') and other decision makers - with the background, concepts and overview necessary to enable them to manage workplace health and safety issues in their school.

Health and Safety Representatives are legally entitled to attend an Initial 5-day course - and annual refresher courses.  Yet HSRs have no responsibilities, duties - or liabilities

Leaders have no such entitlement to training - yet they are legally responsible and liable for health & safety performance and outcomes.  This program helps address this imbalance.
Who should attend?
Leaders - and prospective leaders - in your school - who have the moral, organisational and LEGAL responsibility for workplace health and safety issues in their school.

Health and Safety Representatives also will benefit from participating alongside their managers and supervisors. And as they can hear the same thing at the same time as their managers, can start developing a team approach to managing their respective OHS challenges.
What Will Be Covered In This Course

This program will present participants with a clear overview of the needs and requirements in relation to health and safety in schools:
.

  • various management responsibilities and due diligence requirements that need to be addressed

  • understand what is required, identify achievable objectives and participate in the health and safety process

  • The importance of managing the OHS function in a pro-active manner - of managers, supervisors and employees/health and safety representatives working together (and utilising resources such as the health and safety committee) - will be emphasised throughout the course

References will be made to the DET OHS Management System and guidance given on what to do and how to do it.
